These are the material and “crisp” I was looking for in a duvet set, but they smell soooo bad. I have never experienced this with a down set ever, or any bedding for that matter—it’s like a mix of must, outside birds, and an old warehouse. And it’s so strong it emits through a thick duvet cover / pillowcases and you can even smell it when you walk into the room. After receiving the items, I noticed this strong odor immediately as I opened the box and thought something was wrong (the bags the items come in keep the strong smell, too. I’ve seen all the reviews about this smell, and I don’t understand why the company hasn’t fixed it, especially for such high-priced investment pieces. Unfortunately this is a dry clean item only, too, but from what I’ve seen on other reviews, cleaning the item doesn’t help. This is the only cambric weave down set I’ve been able to find, which I was excited about as a warm sleeper, so I’ve reached out to see if I could return this one and order a new set at the original discounted price I paid; but I haven’t heard back yet, and I’m honestly not even sure it will help. Such a shame, as I thought I’d finally found my dream comforter and pillows.

Hi Jenny. A gentle, low-sudsing detergent designed for down or down-like items, or a mild detergent formulated for wool and delicates, is used to wash raw down. It is crucial to avoid standard laundry detergents with enzymes and harsh chemicals like bleach, as they can strip the natural oils from the down clusters, which damages the fill and reduces its loft. The down is then rinsed several times until the water becomes completely clear. The outer shell contains no chemical treatment or flame retardants. Most of our comforter shells have the Oeko-Tex Standard Certification or have the Organic Content Standard. Thank you for your inquiry.

I’ve heard a quality down comforter should be cooling in the summer/warm in the winter and for extra fluffiness to get the extra fill. Would you agree or are all levels (medium, extra, etc) all having the same fluffiness and fill? I do run a hot sleeper.

Hi Kristen. The Legends Hotel™ Premium Organic Cotton, Down Medium Warmth Comforter. You are correct, down is a natural insulator and works with your own body heat. But each different level does not have the same fluffiness and fill. We do make several different styles of down comforters with various types of down fill and fill power, stitch patterns and thread count of the cotton outer shell. For example, should you choose a medium weight warmth, all of the medium weight warmth comforters in any of the different comforter collections should look and feel the same as far as density and warmth as each other. In the choice of Light, Medium, Extra and Ultra warmth, any of our comforters within each of these warmth levels will NOT be the same as each other. The Light is the least warm and fluffy whereas the Ultra will be the warmest and the fluffiest and fullest. You may want to choose an Extra weight warmth to use in the winter months, and a Light weight warmth in the summer or warmer months.

The Premium Organic Cotton, Down Comforter: Shell: 230-thread count combed organic cotton cambric weave. The LaCrossePremium Down Comforter: Shell: 295-thread count premium cotton twill for extra softness. The higher the thread count cotton, the softer the fabric is. The LaCrosse comforter would have the softer outer shell. Our hypoallergenic down undergoes a meticulous cleaning process in a mild detergent. Once washed, the down is rinsed over and over until the rinse water is clear. No chemicals are used in the down cleaning process. Thank you for your inquiry.

If you choose to launder the product at home, please follow these guidelines for optimal care: Washing Machine Compatibility: For best results, use a large capacity front-load washing machine or a top-loading machine without an agitator. Washing Instructions: Wash the comforter in cold water using a mild detergent on delicate cycle. Drying Process: After washing, tumble dry with dryer balls on a low heat setting. To ensure even drying, it's recommended to remove the comforter from the dryer about 3/4 of the way through the cycle. During this time, rearrange the comforter so that the inner portion is placed on the outer portion. This re-alignment helps the comforter dry evenly. By following these care instructions, you can help maintain the quality and longevity of your comforter. I can give you the warmth chart guide which tells what comforter warmth is recommended for the temperature of your bedroom.
