Blankets & Throws Q&A
A throw blanket is smaller than a standard blanket and used to enhance the aesthetic of a room and provide an extra layer of warmth on cold evenings.Toss a throw blanket across the back of your sofa, on the arm of a chair, or at the foot of the bed.
A standard blanket is larger in size than a throw blanket and is used for different purposes. Blankets are often used as an extra bedding layer, either between the sheet and quilt or as a top layer on the bed. Throws can be used beyond the bed—as an aesthetic element in a room or as an extra layer in chilly weather.
Smaller than standard blankets but slightly longer than standard throws, our throw blankets measure 50 in. x 70 in. Kids’ throw blankets are typically smaller; ours measure 45 in. x 60 in.
Standard blanket sizes correlate to standard bed sizes: A Twin blanket measures 66 in. x 96 in., a Full blanket measures 80 in. x 96 in., a Queen blanket measures 90 in. x 96 in., and a King blanket measures 108 in. x 96 in.
To keep you warm on cold nights, look for cozy wool, fleece, or faux fur blankets, or blankets with a down or down alternative fill rated for extra warmth. Cotton blankets offer all-year comfort—they’re warm enough for winter and cool enough for summer.
For a summer blanket, opt for blankets with lightweight, airy weaves made with breathable materials like linen, cotton, or bamboo.
